North Macedonia pays 6.5 billion denars in agricultural subsidies

North Macedonia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Borče Serafimovski, announced that approximately 90 percent of the funds allocated for agricultural financial support have been realized this year. Out of a total of 7.295 billion denars planned for the 2026 financial support program, roughly 6.512 billion denars have been paid out to date.

Since taking office on July 13, the ministry has completed seven separate payments totaling over 1.2 billion denars. Specific allocations include 372 million denars for cattle breeders, 462 million denars for crop farmers, 217 million denars for horticultural producers, and 85.7 million denars for goat breeders. Additionally, 77 million denars were distributed for organic production and 13 million denars for tobacco producers.

Serafimovski stated that the government is working to clear outstanding debts dating back to 2020 while simultaneously managing current obligations. To prevent fraud, the minister announced increased controls, including field inspections and the use of satellite imagery to ensure funds reach legitimate producers rather than ‘subsidy hunters’.
