North Macedonia pension funds reach 3.5 billion euros in assets
Net assets of the three private pension companies in North Macedonia reached 215.1 billion denars, approximately 3.5 billion euros, at the end of September. This represents a 1.3 percent increase compared to the previous month.
According to data from the Agency for Supervision of Fully Funded Pension Insurance (MAPAS), a total of 642,652 people are members of these funds. The largest portion of assets is managed by KB Prvo with 103.2 billion denars, followed by Sava with 91.2 billion denars, and Triglav with 20.8 billion denars.
The growth in pension savings occurs amid discussions regarding the sustainability of the system. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has previously mentioned the possibility of nationalizing second-pillar assets, a move that has drawn criticism from fund management companies. The Association of Pension Fund Management Companies warned that such an action would not provide a permanent solution, arguing that these assets are the personal property of the insured and can be inherited.
