North Macedonia pensions expected to rise by 3 percent in September

Pensioners in North Macedonia are expected to receive a pension increase of approximately 3 percent starting in September. This adjustment is based on a legal formula that weights the growth of average net salaries and the cost of living equally.

Data from the first half of 2026 shows that the average net salary rose by approximately 4.75 percent compared to the second half of 2025, while the cost of living increased by about 1.17 percent. Under the 50/50 formula, this results in a projected adjustment of roughly 2.96 percent.

The increase will be applied proportionally rather than linearly, meaning those with higher pensions will receive a larger nominal increase. For example, a pension of 20,000 denars could increase by about 600 denars, while a pension of 50,000 denars could see an increase of up to 1,500 denars. The final official percentage is pending confirmation from the relevant state institutions and the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund.
