North Macedonia plans second budget revision amid 7 billion denar deficit

The North Macedonian government is planning a second budget revision within the coming months. The government cites a 7 billion denar deficit in the state treasury, attributed to reductions in excise tax and VAT on petroleum derivatives.

Economist Borçe Trenkovski has called for full transparency during this process, urging officials to clearly explain the reasons for the revision and how the deficit will be covered. He suggested increasing expenditure efficiency and mobilizing additional revenue while being cautious not to increase the deficit further.

Political opposition, represented by LSDM deputy coordinator Fatmir Bytyqi, attributed the deficit to poor planning and low revenues rather than tax changes. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski previously announced the potential revision, stating the goal is to maintain economic stability.
