North Macedonia PM Christian Mицkосki under pressure over water safety and EU accession reforms

Opposition leader Venkо Filipče urged Prime Minister Christian Mицkосki to disclose the results of water quality analyses for several municipalities, including Gostivar, Valandovo and Skopje, after reports of drinking‑water problems and incidents such as contaminated water at a Leshko hospital and white foam in the Lepence River near the Rashe spring. Filipče criticised the government's communication, called for expert statements, and stressed the need to remove organic compounds before chlorination.

In a separate interview, Prime Minister Mицkосki said that the government will not adopt the proposed constitutional amendments. He emphasized that Macedonia’s priority is to find a sustainable path toward EU membership, referencing the negotiation framework, recent European Court of Human Rights rulings concerning the Macedonian community in Bulgaria, and accusing Bulgaria of double‑standard policies. He noted that while the country has already changed its name, flag, currency and constitution, full EU accession has not yet been achieved.
