North Macedonia PM Rejects Electricity Price Hike, Cites Reserves
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said North Macedonia is not planning any increase in electricity tariffs. The government is preparing a plan to lower prices or extend the free‑tariff period, emphasizing that reservoir levels are about 70% full and roughly 500 GWh of electricity is stored, which he described as sufficient to ensure stable supply for citizens and industry.
Mickoski also highlighted a major investment in a wind‑energy park by the Alcazar company in the municipalities of Štip, Karbinci and Radoviš, valued at around half a billion dollars across three phases, as part of a ten‑year energy strategy.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining added that, despite record low water levels in European rivers, the country's electricity production remains stable and there is no immediate risk to power generation. Authorities continue to monitor hydrological parameters and reservoir levels to take action if conditions change.
