North Macedonia police crackdown on traffic violations and hotel raid

On 27 July 2026, police in the Republic of North Macedonia carried out a road‑traffic control operation that fined 178 motorcyclists and drivers of light electric vehicles. Among those cited, 156 motorcyclists were riding without helmets, 13 were arrested for driving without a licence, five motorcycles were seized for expired registration and excessive noise, and 130 other traffic offences were recorded.

A separate police operation on 30 July 2025 in the Gostivar region targeted two hotel premises. Officers detained two individuals – one for obstructing police and another for possession of marijuana – and identified 15 foreign nationals from Serbia, Albania and Colombia who were staying illegally. All detainees were taken to a police station for processing.
