North Macedonia police arrest 43 for reckless driving during traffic blitz
North Macedonian police conducted intensive traffic controls from August 24 to 26, 2026, resulting in 1,621 recorded violations and 43 arrests for reckless driving.
Among the significant offenses, 456 drivers were cited for speeding. Notable arrests included two foreign nationals on the A-1 highway near Demir Kapija: a 51-year-old Serbian woman driving 168 km/h and a 32-year-old Dutch man driving 177 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Both were charged with reckless driving.
Other enforcement actions included 385 citations for illegal parking, 28 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 159 for failing to wear motorcycle helmets, and 105 for not using seatbelts. Additionally, police impounded 19 vehicles, removed 17 unregistered vehicles from traffic, and identified seven vehicles with technical malfunctions.
