North Macedonia political parties demand accountability over police brutality allegations
Political parties in North Macedonia are demanding accountability following allegations of police brutality against two young men, aged 21 and 23. The incident gained public attention after photos surfaced showing visible facial injuries on the individuals.
The victims claim that police used firearms, punctured their vehicle's tires, and physically abused them while their hands were bound. They further stated that a firearm ended up in their vehicle after police broke a window, contradicting an internal police report which claims the youths took a weapon from an officer.
The Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) has called for the immediate resignation of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Astrit Iseni, demanding a transparent and impartial investigation. Similarly, the Albanian League and the Alliance for Albanians have condemned the alleged repression, calling for both disciplinary and criminal investigations to ensure institutional responsibility.
