North Macedonia private healthcare costs and accessibility

In North Macedonia, patients often face a choice between long wait times in the public healthcare system or paying for private medical services to receive faster diagnoses. While private healthcare offers speed, the costs can significantly impact family budgets.

According to published price lists for 2026, basic specialist examinations can cost around 3,000 denars, while diagnostic packages may reach up to 8,000 denars. More complex procedures are considerably more expensive; for instance, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been offered at promotional rates ranging from 17,500 to 19,500 denars, depending on whether contrast is used. Some private hospitals also offer seasonal discounts of up to 50 percent on certain diagnostic services during weekends and holidays.
