North Macedonia public debt projected to exceed 11 billion euros

SDSM lawmaker Fatmir Bitiki has warned that North Macedonia’s public debt is projected to exceed 11 billion euros by the end of the year. This follows a 2.5 billion euro increase in debt over the last two and a half years.

Bitiki highlighted concerns regarding 480 million euros in additional debt, which includes 330 million euros for the Public Enterprise for State Roads and 150 million euros announced by Finance Minister Gordana Dimrieska-Kochoska. He criticized the second budget rebalance as a result of poor planning and mismanagement, noting that capital investments have been reduced by 5.8 billion denars.

Furthermore, Bitiki reported that 210 companies were denied contracts under the Law on Financial Support for Investments due to a lack of funds from the Ministry of Finance. He also noted 750 million denars in outstanding obligations to 170 companies from 2024.
