North Macedonia reports 11 new HIV/AIDS cases in July

The Institute of Public Health (ISHP) reported 11 new cases of HIV/AIDS in North Macedonia during July. The new cases involve nine men and two women, aged between 20 and 49 years.

Since 1987, the cumulative number of registered HIV/AIDS cases in North Macedonia has reached 765. Of these, 141 individuals have died, 508 are living with the virus, and 116 are considered lost to follow-up. In 2025, 38 new cases have been reported, representing a rate of 2.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which remains lower than the 2024 EU average of 5.3 cases per 100,000.

Other reported infections in July include seven cases of syphilis, four cases of hepatitis B, and single instances of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hepatitis C. The ISHP has urged the public to prioritize timely testing, proper treatment, and preventive measures, specifically warning against the unsupervised use of antibiotics to avoid drug resistance.
