North Macedonia reports some of the lowest regional food prices
North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that the country has some of the lowest food and beverage prices in the region, citing recent Eurostat data. According to the Prime Minister, the price index indicates that North Macedonia ranks among the lowest-cost nations for these products, with food and non-alcoholic beverage prices being approximately 25 percent lower than the average across 36 European countries.
Mickoski attributed this trend to government efforts to stabilize inflation. He noted that in the third quarter, the country's inflation rate was significantly lower than the European Union average, specifically by 25 to 30 percent. He used these statistics to counter political opponents who had previously claimed that inflation in the country was higher than the EU average.
Despite these improvements in price stability, official data indicates that average net wages in North Macedonia remain lower than in neighboring countries. As of July 2026, the average net wage was approximately 789 euros, compared to roughly 1,035 euros in Serbia, 1,040 euros in Montenegro, and 1,555 euros in Croatia.
