North Macedonia road safety council urges safe driving for Republic Day holidays

The Republican Council for Road Safety of North Macedonia (RSBSP) issued an appeal ahead of the August 2 Republic Day (Ilinden) weekend, urging all road users to act responsibly and follow traffic regulations. The council warned that traffic volume is expected to rise sharply, especially on routes to popular tourist destinations such as Ohrid, Prespa, Dojran, Kruševo and Pelince, as well as at border crossings.

Key recommendations include obeying speed limits, avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or psycho‑active substances, not driving while fatigued, always wearing seat belts and using appropriate child seats for children up to five years old, and refraining from mobile‑phone use while operating a vehicle. Drivers should inspect vehicle condition before departure and take a break at least every two hours on long trips. Cyclists, motorcyclists, riders of light electric vehicles and pedestrians are also asked to exercise caution and respect traffic rules. The council concluded by wishing citizens a safe journey and a pleasant Republic Day.
