North Macedonia seeks bilateral deals to resolve transport issues

North Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolloski, stated that the government is seeking bilateral solutions to address challenges faced by domestic transporters following the implementation of the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES).

Nikolloski addressed potential protests from transport companies scheduled for September 1, noting that the government maintains regular communication with transport associations. While acknowledging that the EES is under the jurisdiction of the EU and the Schengen Area, he emphasized that the state is working to mitigate consequences through specific bilateral agreements.

North Macedonia has already secured agreements with Croatia, Switzerland, and Romania. Efforts are currently underway to establish similar arrangements with Austria, Hungary, and Germany, with discussions involving Slovenia expected to begin in October.
