North Macedonia sees 5 million euro savings after one year in SEPA

The National Bank has marked one year since the country's operational integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), a move described as a historic step toward the modernization and European integration of the domestic payment system.

As of September 2026, more than 581,000 transactions have been processed through SEPA, with a total value reaching approximately 11 billion euros. This integration has resulted in estimated savings of over 5 million euros for citizens and businesses. Payment fees have decreased by up to six times for individuals and up to nine times for companies compared to the previous correspondent banking model.

SEPA now accounts for approximately 69% of all cross-border transactions in euros. The bank noted that these savings are expected to grow as more users transition to the SEPA channel, potentially providing new investment opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises and increasing disposable income for households.
