Macedonia stalls EU accession while neighbours advance, says SDSM chief

SDSM leader Venkо Filipče told the National Council for Euro‑integration that Macedonia is the only candidate country without an opened negotiation chapter, while Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Ukraine are making progress. He characterised the lack of movement as a deliberate “state attack” on the country’s EU path.

EU ambassador Mihailis Rokas reiterated the EU’s full commitment to Macedonia’s European perspective, praised the government’s recent reform capacity and urged continued progress on rule of law, justice independence and anti‑corruption measures. Both speakers highlighted the importance of opening negotiation chapters for the accession process.
