North Macedonia to expand ‘Safe City’ system to four municipalities

North Macedonia's Minister of Internal Affairs, Panče Toškovski, announced that the ‘Safe City’ smart system will be implemented in Ohrid, Debar, Kičevo, and Struga starting October 12. Preparations for the command center and system implementation are currently in the final stages.

The system, which has been operational nationwide since February 1, underwent a two-and-a-half-month adaptation and testing period. Toškovski noted that since the system's introduction, traffic accident injuries have decreased by approximately 20 percent, resulting in 34 fewer fatalities compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, the Minister stated that an agreement has been reached with the European Union to deploy Frontex personnel to the western border, in addition to the southern border. Joint activities at the western border are expected to begin by the end of the year to improve overall border control.
