North Macedonia to extend oil crisis state for six months

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has announced plans to extend the state of crisis for oil and petroleum derivatives for an additional six months. If approved by Parliament, the extension would last until April 2027.

The government intends to maintain this legal mechanism to ensure a rapid response to potential supply disruptions or price shocks caused by international market instability. While Mickoski noted signs of possible de-escalation in global tensions, the measure remains a precautionary step to secure energy supplies.

In conjunction with the crisis state, the government is also extending a measure to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel fuel from 18% to 10%. Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska stated that this measure aims to mitigate external price pressures and reduce the financial burden on citizens and the economy.
