North Macedonia to implement percentage-based pension increases in September

Pensioners in North Macedonia are expected to receive a new pension increase in September. Unlike previous linear increases where all pensions rose by the same amount, this upcoming harmonization will be calculated as a percentage based on monthly income levels. Consequently, higher pensions will see larger absolute increases.

The exact percentage has not yet been officially determined, as the final calculation depends on relevant economic indicators. This adjustment follows significant previous increases; according to Pension Fund data, total linear growth reached approximately 7,000 denars between September 2024 and March 2026. The new increase arrives amid high costs for food, utilities, and medicine, particularly impacting households where pensions are the primary source of income. The updated September pensions are scheduled to be paid in October.
