North Macedonia to launch mobile ID and driver's licenses
North Macedonia will officially begin the implementation of an electronic wallet this Thursday, allowing citizens to carry their identity cards and driver's licenses on their mobile phones. The application is scheduled for official promotion on Wednesday, October 28.
Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski stated that the application is designed with high security standards to protect personal data. Unlike physical cards, the digital version allows users to selectively share specific information via a one-time use QR code. Once scanned and approved by the user, the code expires within 10 to 15 seconds to prevent reuse.
Andonovski noted that this initiative is the first step toward a broader goal of full document digitalization and the eventual adoption of the European digital wallet. The government intends to expand the platform to include additional services and documents in the future.
