North Macedonia advances infrastructure in Novaci and ruby gemstone protection
The Novaci Municipality in North Macedonia is undergoing significant infrastructure and economic development. Key projects include the expansion of the Novaci Industrial Zone, where investments in water, atmospheric, and sewage systems have reached approximately 77.5 million denars. Additionally, a wastewater treatment plant in Dobromiri, valued at 31 million denars, is nearing completion, with a similar project planned for Novaci.
Agricultural development is being supported by a 90 million denar irrigation system project funded by a European Union IPA grant. Other local improvements include the construction of recreational paths and roads near the ‘Nativity of the Holy Mother of God’ monastery, totaling about 20 million denars.
Separately, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources is advancing the protection and international promotion of Macedonian ruby. This unique raspberry-pink corund, found exclusively near Prilep and in the Mariovo mountains, is the only natural ruby in continental Europe processed locally. New steps are being taken to establish certification, origin documentation, and authentic promotion mechanisms for the gemstone.
