North Macedonia to launch ‘Safe City’ system and expand FRONTEX border operations
North Macedonian Interior Minister Panče Toshkovski announced that the ‘Safe City’ intelligent system is set to begin practical implementation on October 12. The system will be deployed across the Ohrid regional police sector, covering the areas of Ohrid, Struga, Kičevo, and Debar.
During a working visit to the Ohrid Police Sector and the Regional Border Affairs Center West, Toshkovski stated that the command center is in the final stages of preparation. The initiative aims to enhance public security, combat crime and corruption, prevent illegal drug trafficking, and improve road safety.
Additionally, Toshkovski revealed a significant expansion in cooperation with FRONTEX. For the first time, the European border agency will extend its activities from the southern border to include North Macedonia’s western border, specifically targeting the border with Albania. Joint operations with FRONTEX are expected to commence at the beginning of next year to strengthen border controls and capacity.
