North Macedonia to return to Eurovision in 2027

North Macedonia will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, marking its comeback after a multi-year absence. The public broadcaster, MRT, confirmed its participation in the 71st edition of the competition, which is scheduled to be held in Burgas, Bulgaria.

MRT Director Zoran Ristoski announced that the broadcaster intends to implement a more transparent selection process for the country’s representative and song. While specific details of the new model have not been released, the broadcaster aims to ensure the public is well-informed regarding the criteria and procedures used to select the performer.

The broadcaster also noted support from the European Broadcasting Union in its efforts to promote national culture and music. Financial costs were previously cited as a factor in the country’s absence from the contest, which North Macedonia last entered in 2022.
