North Macedonia to send new criminal laws to EU for review

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced that the government has finalized the drafts for the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Act. He stated that these documents are expected to be sent to the European Commission for an opinion by the end of the month.

Mickoski noted that the legislative process has been ongoing since 2019 and emphasized that the new laws have been drafted in accordance with European Union recommendations and standards. A meeting is scheduled for Monday to perform a final review and fine-tuning of the texts, which have already been translated by the Ministry of European Affairs.

The Prime Minister also criticized the previous government, led by SDSM and DUI, accusing them of attempting to secure political amnesty by interfering with the judicial system and altering the Criminal Code to remove specific articles.
