North Macedonia tourism highlights beyond Skopje and Ohrid

Travelers visiting North Macedonia often focus on the capital, Skopje, and the lakeside city of Ohrid, but the country offers significant historical and natural sites beyond these two hubs.

Bitola, located on the Pelagonia plain near the Greek border, is known as the “city of consuls” due to its history as an Ottoman administrative seat. The city features neo-classical architecture along the Širok Sokak pedestrian street. Nearby, the ancient site of Heraclea Lyncestis, founded by Philip II of Macedon, contains a Roman theatre and notable sixth-century floor mosaics.
