North Macedonia unveils Digital Health Strategy 2026–2030

The Ministry of Health of North Macedonia has introduced the Digital Health Strategy 2026–2030, aimed at centralizing patient medical data to prevent redundant testing and improve care continuity. Under this plan, medical records will follow the patient from primary care physicians to specialists, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Citizens will gain enhanced access to their medical histories, e-prescriptions, and remote consultations through the upgraded ‘Moje Zdravje’ portal. The strategy also establishes a legal framework for telemedicine, which will particularly benefit chronic patients in rural areas. Patients will maintain control over their data, including the ability to see who has accessed their records and the right to grant or withdraw consent.

Implementation is expected to occur in phases, with the primary system rollout scheduled for 2028 and 2029. A national data center, valued at 20 million euros, is planned for construction near Skopje. Supported by the European Union, the initiative aims to ensure that Macedonian health data is compatible and recognized across all EU member states.
