North Macedonia's Supreme Court faces criticism over Laskarci verdict
The VMRO-DPMNE party has criticized recent decisions by the Supreme Court of North Macedonia, alleging that judicial remnants of the SDSM and DUI political parties are protecting criminals.
Specifically, the party highlighted that judges Afrim Fidani, Djemail Saiti, and Safet Kadrija overturned a verdict in the Laskarci case, a traffic accident that resulted in 16 deaths, thereby releasing those responsible. Additionally, the Supreme Court released Stevcho Jakimovski, who had been legally convicted of criminal activity.
The political group expressed deep concern over the lack of accountability in cases involving significant loss of life, citing the Laskarci accident and a modular hospital incident where 14 people died, noting that no culprits have been held responsible in either instance. They further questioned the proximity of the involved judges to DUI structures, arguing that political installations continue to use institutional bastions to protect existing systems.
