North Melbourne defeats Brisbane Lions in AFLW rematch
North Melbourne extended their winning streak to 29 games with an 11-point victory over the Brisbane Lions in a grand final rematch held in Ipswich. The Kangaroos secured a 44 to 33 win, maintaining their status as defending premiers.
Ash Riddell led the performance for North Melbourne with 42 disposals, five clearances, and 467 meters gained. Other key contributors included Jasmine Garner, Erika O'Shea, and Tahlia Randall, who kicked two goals. Bella Eddey also provided crucial goals in the final quarter to secure the lead.
Despite a slow start that left them with only a single behind in the first half, the Lions mounted a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the margin to just three points. Ruby Svarc kicked two goals for Brisbane, while Orla O'Dwyer recorded a team-high 20 disposals. Lions coach Craig Starcevich noted that despite missing suspended player Dakota Davidson and playing several inexperienced players, the team's performance showed significant progress in closing the gap with the premiers.
