North Mitrovica officials report illegal demolitions in Bošnjaka mahala

In the Bošnjaka mahala neighborhood of North Mitrovica, several commercial buildings have been demolished amid a dispute over legal permits. The North Mitrovica Municipality claims that the demolition work is being conducted without valid authorization and that the contractor lacks the necessary permits for structures located on municipal land.

Local officials stated that the demolition permits were issued by the previous administration and that current inspections revealed the permits had expired. The municipality's legal team has identified what they describe as a series of procedural irregularities and intends to initiate criminal proceedings against those involved in the illegal activities.

Conflict arose when municipal inspectors attempted to halt the work. According to the municipality, instead of assisting the inspectors, the Kosovo Police obstructed their duties and detained municipal officials. Despite the orders to cease all activities, heavy machinery continued the demolition of the buildings.
