North Queensland Bears target Matt Burton
The North Queensland Bears have entered preliminary negotiations with Matt Burton’s management to recruit the Canterbury Bulldogs player. A potential move to Perth would reunite Burton with former halves partner Toby Sexton.
Burton is currently contracted to the Bulldogs until the end of 2027, but the club has granted him permission to explore market options before he becomes a free agent on November 1. While Canterbury aims to retain him as a centre, the Bears are reportedly prepared to offer him the No. 6 jersey and a corresponding salary.
Separately, South Sydney has offered Cody Walker a contract including a second-year option. If triggered, Walker would become the equal oldest player in NRL history.
