North Queensland Cowboys secure NRL finals spot after heavy Roosters defeat
The North Queensland Cowboys have secured a place in the NRL finals following a significant recovery from a heavy Round 22 defeat. During that match, the Sydney Roosters defeated the Cowboys 82-12.
Cowboys coach Todd Payten described the loss as “one of our darkest days” and noted it was the first time in his career he was unsure of what to say at half-time. To address the loss, Payten ordered all players and staff to face frustrated fans at the Cowboys Leagues Club, stating that the team needed to “wear” the criticism from their supporters.
Following that incident, the team has successfully navigated the remainder of the season to qualify for the finals. Their final regular-round match is against Canberra, ahead of a potential elimination final against Cronulla.
