Nordrhein-Westfalen marks 80th anniversary and concludes major forest fire

Nordrhein-Westfalen is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary. A major celebration is scheduled to take place in Münster from August 28 to 30, 2026, marking the state's milestone. During the event, various regions, including the Kreis Steinfurt, will showcase local tourism highlights such as the 100-Schlösser-Route, the EmsRadweg, and cultural sites like the Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst.

In separate news, the largest forest fire in the history of Nordrhein-Westfalen has been extinguished in the Hürtgenwald. Mayor Stephan Cranen confirmed that all hotspots have been put out after a week of intensive work by emergency services. While no injuries or house damage were reported, the forest area remains closed to the public due to unstable and weakened trees.
