North Rhine-Westphalia economic output rises in 2024

In 2024, economic output in North Rhine-Westphalia increased in almost all districts and independent cities. According to the State Statistical Office, the total economic output reached approximately 880 billion euros, representing a nominal increase of 2.5% compared to the previous year.

Recklinghausen district recorded the highest growth rate in the state at 7.3%, followed by Bochum at 5.2% and Duisburg at 5.1%. Growth in Recklinghausen was driven by the manufacturing sector, while Bochum and Duisburg saw gains in the service sectors. Conversely, Mettmann district experienced the largest decline at -5.0%.

While nominal values rose, the state's real GDP (adjusted for inflation) saw a decline of 0.5% in 2024.
