North Rhine-Westphalia expands Eezy-Ticket to youth

The Eezy-Ticket, a digital transit model designed to simplify public transportation in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has been expanded to include children and adolescents. Previously, younger passengers traveling alone were excluded from this model and were required to purchase traditional single tickets, which could be significantly more expensive depending on the route.

The Eezy-Ticket system uses a check-in/check-out method via mobile apps. The fare is automatically calculated based on the distance between the starting point and the destination, often resulting in lower costs for occasional users compared to standard single tickets. According to the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Transport, the system saw nearly 1.3 million uses in August 2026 alone.

Users can access the service through approximately 40 different apps, including those from major transport associations like VRR and VRS, or individual municipal utilities. Due to technical implementation delays, users are advised to verify which specific apps support the Eezy-Tarif for younger passengers.
