North Rhine-Westphalia invests 2.6 billion euros in hospital modernization

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has launched a funding call for hospitals through the Hospital Transformation Fund (KHTF). This initiative, part of a federal hospital reform, aims to modernize the healthcare landscape and ensure long-term stability through 2035.

Of the 7.2 billion euros available for planned hospitals in the region, North Rhine-Westphalia is providing approximately 2.6 billion euros in state funds. A specific mandate requires that one-third of the approved state funds be dedicated to climate adaptation measures, such as increasing resilience against extreme weather events and implementing air conditioning systems.

Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann stated that the investment is intended to help hospitals adapt their structures to medical and demographic changes, ensuring high-quality, local, and sustainable care for the population.
