North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag celebrates 80th anniversary with light art

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag, a light art installation titled 'Fundament der Demokratie' has been launched in Düsseldorf. Created by the artist duo Hartung and Trenz, the installation projects quotes and reflections on democracy onto the Landtag building and its forecourt.

The quotes feature a diverse range of voices, including former high-ranking politicians like Franz Müntefering and Jürgen Rüttgers, as well as artists such as Sasha and Max Raabe, and contributions from school classes across the state. The installation is part of the 'Week of Democracy' and is scheduled to be visible every evening from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM until October 11.

Parliament President André Kuper noted that the project aims to highlight the ongoing importance of preserving democracy. In addition to the visual displays, the anniversary celebrations include a jubilee concert by the WDR Symphony Orchestra in the Landtag's plenary hall.
