North Rhine-Westphalia offers IT security subsidies for SMEs

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has launched the MID-Digitale Sicherheit program to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in improving their digital security. The program offers a subsidy covering 50 percent of eligible costs, with a maximum grant of 15,000 euros per company.

To qualify, the subsidy must meet a minimum threshold of 4,000 euros. The application process follows a unique two-stage structure: companies must first express interest and participate in a lottery. If selected, they have 28 days to complete the formal application.

Strict conditions apply to the funding. Companies are prohibited from starting their security projects or entering into legally binding agreements with partners before receiving the official grant notification.
