North Rhine-Westphalia reaches 10 gigawatts of wind energy capacity

North Rhine-Westphalia has reached a significant milestone in renewable energy expansion, with installed wind power capacity now totaling ten gigawatts. The state association for renewable energies, LEE NRW, welcomed this progress but emphasized the need for reliable political frameworks to ensure continued growth.

In a separate development regarding solar energy, a children's home in Büttgen successfully installed a 21 kilowatt-peak photovoltaic system. The project was made possible following a legislative change that addressed previous tax regulations. Previously, non-profit organizations faced risks to their charitable status if they fed surplus solar power into the public grid, as this was classified as a taxable commercial activity. Following political intervention, the legal barriers were removed, allowing the facility to utilize renewable technology without jeopardizing its non-profit standing.
