North Rhine-Westphalia targets bureaucracy reduction and digital administration
North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) officials are advancing initiatives to reduce administrative burdens and modernize state governance through digitalization.
Minister Nathanael Liminski announced ambitious targets to reduce reporting requirements by 30 percent for businesses and 50 percent for the administration. During a meeting with the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT) in Ratingen, Liminski emphasized that reducing documentation efforts aims to save companies time and money without requiring additional state spending.
Simultaneously, the state is progressing with a large-scale electronic filing (E-Akte) project. State Secretary Christoph Dammermann and CIO Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Falcke reviewed the project's status with Materna Information & Communications SE. The initiative aims to equip 60,000 workstations across 225 authorities with electronic files. By the end of 2024, all administration employees in NRW are expected to use the E-Akte as their primary system, marking a significant step in the state's modernization and digitalization efforts.
