North Rhine-Westphalian Landtag celebrates 80 years with light art

To celebrate its 80th anniversary, the North Rhine-Westphalian Landtag will host a ‘Democracy Week’ in October. As part of the festivities, the parliament building on the Rhine will serve as a canvas for a light art installation titled ‘Fundament der Demokratie’ by artists Hartung and Trenz.

From October 5 to October 11, the installation will project quotes and reflections on democracy onto the building's facades. These messages come from a diverse group, including former high-ranking politicians, artists, scientists, and school classes from across the state. Parliament President André Kuper noted that these contributions from both famous and young citizens emphasize the ongoing importance of preserving democracy.

The installation will be displayed nightly from 19:30 to 23:00. Additionally, the film ‘Häuser der Demokratie,’ which chronicles the history of the Landtag and the state through its various parliamentary locations, will be screened on the forecourt every evening starting at 18:00.
