North Rhine‑Westphalia extends applications for regional Heimat‑Preis 2026

The Kreis Borken district announced that the deadline for the 2026 Heimat‑Preis – a regional heritage award funded by the North Rhine‑Westphalia programme “Heimat. Zukunft. Nordrhein‑Westfalen.” – has been extended to 15 August 2026. Eligible non‑profit clubs, groups and initiatives based in the district may submit one project each, with a total prize fund of €10,000 split between three winners (€5,000, €3,000 and €2,000). The award will be presented by District Administrator Dr. Kai Zwicker at the end of the year.

In the city of Viersen, Mayor Christoph Hopp similarly urged local organisations to apply for the Heimat‑Preis, which offers up to €5,000 under the same state funding programme. Projects must be non‑profit, publicly accessible and contribute to local identity, cultural heritage, integration, tolerance or environmental protection. Past winners have included inclusion projects, historical remembrance groups and community‑service initiatives.

Both calls aim to showcase and support volunteer‑driven efforts that strengthen regional identity and community life across North Rhine‑Westphalia.
