North Saanich receives independent governance advisor
The Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs has appointed Randy Diehl as an independent advisor to North Saanich to assist with the transition to a new council following the October 17 election. Diehl, of Diehl Management Services, will serve until December 23, focusing on governance practices, meeting procedures, and communication protocols.
The appointment follows a period of instability in the district characterized by legal disputes, staff turnover, and strained relationships between council, staff, and the public. Diehl will work with senior staff on transition planning and will eventually provide a report to the council at an open meeting to identify practice gaps and suggest next steps. The district clarified that this role is not an investigation or inquiry into local governance.
