North Sea gusts reach Beaufort scale 8, drawing hundreds to the coast

Wind speeds of 62–74 km/h (Beaufort scale 8) were recorded over the North Sea, producing moderate to high waves and strong breezes on the German coast. The weather service reported gusts up to 74 km/h, creating a classic “stürmischer Wind” condition.

Despite the forceful conditions, hundreds of people gathered on beaches such as Sylt, Borkum and Helgoland, enjoying the lively sea air. The region’s high salinity and aerosol‑rich air intensify the wind’s effect on the respiratory system, a factor noted by local observers.
