North Slope gas pipeline project remains stalled
The North Slope gas pipeline project remains stalled despite over $1 billion in state spending and hundreds of millions invested by oil and gas producers over the last 25 years. Previous attempts to incentivize the project through property tax relief, free state land resources, and corporate profit tax exemptions have failed to make the project economically viable.
In 2025, the state transferred 75% ownership of the project to a private developer, but this move has resulted in little more than promotional press releases and promises. Discussions regarding the project's future suggest that the state may need to leverage its remaining 25% stake to secure political or economic support to move the infrastructure forward.
