North Sumatra launches Sumut Halal Fest 2026 to boost sharia economy

The North Sumatra Provincial Government, Bank Indonesia, and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) have launched the Sumut Halal Fest 2026 to strengthen the regional sharia economic ecosystem. Held on August 26–27, 2026, in Medan, the event represents a first-of-its-kind collaboration between these institutions and various strategic partners.

The initiative aims to establish the halal industry as a new driver of economic growth in North Sumatra. Key objectives include strengthening the halal industrial ecosystem, increasing the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), expanding halal certification, and improving sharia economic literacy.

Governor Bobby Nasution noted that the rising national and global demand for halal products presents a significant opportunity for local MSMEs to expand their markets and competitiveness. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of BPJPH, emphasized that North Sumatra possesses substantial potential due to its large number of entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
