Indonesian regional governments address budget accountability and disaster risks

Various regional governments in Indonesia are addressing fiscal accountability, disaster preparedness, and environmental health.

In Serang, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged local officials to ensure that the Regional Budget (APBD) provides tangible benefits to the community. The KPK is monitoring the 2026 budget and 2027 draft to ensure transparency in procurement and the effective implementation of community proposals through the regional legislature.

In North Sumatra, authorities are focusing on disaster mitigation and fiscal efficiency. The provincial government is implementing mitigation strategies in six disaster-prone areas to reduce risks from floods, landslides, and earthquakes. Additionally, the Acting Regional Secretary emphasized that regional spending must prioritize high-impact programs rather than just high absorption rates. Bank Sumut is also working with Tapanuli Utara to strengthen micro-business and farmer credit access.

In West Sumatra, officials have issued warnings regarding air quality due to forest and land fires. The Governor has urged citizens to limit outdoor activities and wear masks following a rise in respiratory infections in Padang. The province is also monitoring hotspots and coordinating with neighboring provinces to manage smoke haze affecting the region.
