North Sydney Olympic Pool reopens after $122 million rebuild

The North Sydney Olympic Pool, a heritage‑listed swimming venue in Milsons Point, has reopened after a five‑year, $122 million redevelopment. The project, originally slated for 2022, was delayed by legal disputes, rising costs and heritage concerns before finally opening with a free community weekend to mark its 90th anniversary.

The upgraded complex now offers a heated 50‑metre outdoor pool, an indoor 25‑metre lap pool, a program pool, a children’s splash‑pad, spa, sauna and steam‑room facilities for guests over 16, as well as a gym, group‑fitness studio, reformer‑pilates studio, swim school, creche and café. Council officials warned of strong demand and asked visitors to limit stays to about an hour during the opening weekend.

The redevelopment has reignited debate over council‑led infrastructure projects and the balance between preserving historic sites and meeting housing and community‑facility needs in Sydney.
