North Sydney Olympic Pool roof damaged by high winds

A portion of the roof at the North Sydney Olympic Pool was damaged by high winds exceeding 80km/h on Saturday. The incident occurred approximately one month after the $122 million facility opened on August 7.

North Sydney Council confirmed the wind caused minor damage to a section of the roofing and stated that contractors were deployed promptly to make the area safe. Pool operations remained unaffected, and no injuries were reported.

The damage adds to the ongoing controversies surrounding the project, which saw its budget swell from an initial estimate of $58 million to $122 million. Residents have expressed frustration over the repairs, noting that local rates have increased by 52 per cent over three years to fund the project. The facility has previously faced issues, including a power supply failure shortly after its opening.
