North Wales Police search for mother after newborn found in Bangor
North Wales Police and health officials have launched an investigation, designated as Operation Melex, following the discovery of a newborn baby's body on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor. The body was found by a member of the public shortly before 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 27.
Authorities have issued an urgent appeal to locate the infant's mother, expressing significant concern for her health and wellbeing. Fiona Giraud, Director of Midwifery and Women's Services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, stated that the mother may be “extremely vulnerable” and potentially fearful of seeking help due to her circumstances.
Detective Sergeant Kelly Wynne has requested that anyone with information regarding a woman who may have recently been pregnant or whose behavior has been uncharacteristically withdrawn contact the police. A Home Office post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon to assist with the ongoing investigation.
